We partner with extraordinary social change organizations in marginalized contexts to develop community-centered programs that support mental health and wellbeing.

We work in sectors like education, workforce development, gender equity and youth leadership, and collaborate to take initiatives from initial concept to lasting impact. Your teams have access to our leadership support, strategic advising, evaluation support, and clinical experience.

Community-led

Community-led

We design each program centered on the lived experience, values and aspirations of the community. All our programs are locally initiated, co-created and owned by our extraordinary partners, who have a deep understanding of their contexts and systems.

Evidence-based approach

Evidence-based approach

We use a well-researched therapeutic framework called Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT), which has been proven across more than 1000 studies with a wide range of populations. ACT reduces risk and effectively addresses existing mental health conditions.

Scalable programs

Scalable programs

All programs are designed to last beyond our involvement, fostering systemic change and sustainable partnerships with government and civil society. This is achieved through active community participation, collaborative work with stakeholders, ‘train the trainer’ programs and more.

A deep-dive into our approach

1. Listening & needs assessment

We work with your organization and community to understand and define the problem you’re looking to address.

Through deep empathetic exploration, we delve deeply into participant needs and goals, fostering motivation and engagement. This includes initial needs assessments, focus groups, and interviews.

Listening & needs assessment
Program co-design & pilot

2. Program co-design & pilot

Using our findings and human-centered design, we co-create a pilot program centered on participants’ context, values and wellbeing needs.

Each subsequent year, we create clear goals for the partnership to help expand on the pilot and prepare for growth and accessibility. This often involves training or replication by ecosystem partners.

3. Locally-led implementation & capacity building

We support your teams by convening local like-minded leaders, the input of experts with relevant experience, and our own accompaniment and support.

As your impact grows, we help shape long-term strategies. This includes team development, revenue generation, securing grants, stakeholder training, and much more.

Locally-led implementation & capacity building
Impact measurement & learning

4. Impact measurement & learning

Each partnership is required to measure effectiveness and adapt as needed.

This involves approachable developmental and summative evaluation strategies to grasp the true impact of our efforts and refine the program according to our learnings.

Our partnership principles

1. Multi-lens approach

We combine psychological expertise and clinical experience with human-centered design to address problems in low-resource contexts.

2. Locally-led

We work with leaders embedded in local communities to design for community participation and ownership. Initiatives are created to last beyond Brio’s involvement, achieving systems-change and local partnership with government and civil society.

3. Holistic mental health promotion

We emphasize mental health prevention and promotion, creating cross-diagnostic interventions that inclusively support and benefit the community as a whole, reducing overall need for treatment.

4. Tailored support

We fine-tune our strategies, processes, and tools across partnerships, and customize our support and services to the participants’ needs.

5. Long-term focus

We leverage a multi-year time horizon for partnership growth, evaluation, refinement, and long-term impact.

"We can’t change our past, what has already happened to us. But this mental health program has allowed us to think about today and tomorrow— and choose to live life in a new way."

— Syedah, Rohingya community leader, Malaysia

"Brio has brought that strategy and tools and we find so many ways to present or deal with a subject in a way that allows us to reach the kids and offer them support and company. It is not only how to deal with problems but how you approach life and become more conscious of yourself and others.”

— Juan Guillermo Ocampo, Amadeus Fundación, Colombia

"Brio has been a significant support for us as a mentor, as a thinking partner that not only listens but helps you in pushing your own boundaries, and provides with a safe space to design possibilities to create transforming realities for communities."

— Pallavi, Kshamtalaya Foundation, India
