How we partner
See our programsCommitted to radical collaboration
We work with local teams, participants and public sector partners through collaborative relationships built on trust and shared values. Every program is co-created, locally owned, and designed to outlast us, often through the public system. We frequently relinquish credit and recognition, and open-source our work in service of effective collective ownership, smooth adoption and wider impact.

Locally-led
We design each program centered on the lived experience, values and aspirations of the community. All our programs are locally initiated, co-created and owned by our extraordinary partners, who have a deep understanding of their contexts and systems. Learn more.

Evidence-based framework
We use a well-researched therapeutic framework called Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT), which has been proven across more than 1,000 studies with a wide range of populations. ACT reduces risk and effectively addresses existing mental health conditions. Learn more.

Scalable programs
All programs are designed to last beyond our involvement, fostering systemic change and sustainable partnerships with government and civil society. This is achieved through active community participation, collaborative work with stakeholders, ‘train the trainer’ programs and more. Learn more.

A deep-dive into how we partner
1. Listening & needs assessment
We work with our partners and participants to understand and define the problem they’re looking to address.
Through deep empathetic exploration, we delve deeply into participant needs and goals, fostering motivation and engagement. This includes initial needs assessments, focus groups, and interviews.

2. Program co-design & pilot
Using our findings and human-centered design, we co-create a pilot program centered on participants’ context, values and wellbeing needs. When relevant, our local partners involve their public sector collaborators, ensuring alignment with broader system priorities and realities.
Each year, we set shared goals to grow the pilot’s reach and accessibility, often through training or replication by ecosystem partners.
3. Locally-led implementation & capacity building
We support our partners by convening local like-minded leaders, the input of experts with relevant experience, and our own accompaniment and support.
As impact grows, we help shape long-term strategies. This includes team development, revenue generation, securing grants, stakeholder training, and much more — further embedding the work in the community and the local public system.

4. Impact measurement & learning
Each partnership is required to measure effectiveness and adapt as needed.
This involves approachable developmental and summative evaluation strategies to grasp the true impact of our efforts and refine the program according to our learnings.

Our partnership principles
Our partnership principles

Multi-lens approach
We combine psychological expertise and clinical experience with human-centered design to address problems in low-resource contexts.

Locally-led
We work with leaders embedded in local communities to design for community participation and ownership. Initiatives are created to last beyond Brio’s involvement, achieving systems-change and local partnership with government and civil society.

Holistic mental health promotion
We emphasize mental health prevention and promotion, creating cross-diagnostic interventions that inclusively support and benefit the community as a whole, reducing overall need for treatment.

Tailored support
We fine-tune our strategies, processes, and tools across partnerships, and customize our support and services to the participants’ needs.

Long-term focus
We leverage a multi-year time horizon for partnership growth, evaluation, refinement, and long-term impact.
